Taxila Launches Safe City Project with 93 Surveillance Cameras and Advanced Security Tech
Taxila has taken a major step toward public safety with the official launch of the Safe City Project on Sunday. The new system is designed to improve security and monitoring across the historic city, which is home to sensitive locations and cultural landmarks.
As part of the initiative, 93 high-tech surveillance cameras have been installed at key locations — including entry and exit points, main chowks, intersections, religious places, and even the Taxila Museum. The cameras come equipped with facial recognition, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), and powerful zoom capabilities, allowing real-time monitoring of vehicles and individuals.
The camera network includes:
- 20 IP (internet protocol) network cameras
- 63 fixed surveillance cameras
- 12 zoom-capable cameras
To further enhance public safety, the system also includes 10 panic buttons installed at major public areas, enabling quick alerts in case of emergencies. Moreover, 20 free public WiFi access points have been introduced to help citizens stay connected while in monitored zones.
A standout feature of the project is the integration of ANPR technology at all major entry and exit points, which will help authorities automatically detect and record vehicle information. In addition, four cameras equipped with facial recognition AI will help law enforcement track potential threats more efficiently.
The system is also supported by drone surveillance, especially useful during large public gatherings such as Muharram processions, religious events, or political rallies. This aerial support helps provide a broader view of crowd movements and traffic control.
Officials believe that the Taxila Safe City Project will not only deter criminal activity but also improve response times for emergencies and make public spaces safer for residents and tourists alike. propakistan
