Punjab Railway Stations Set to Get Free Wi-Fi

Pakistan’s railway system is about to undergo a significant transformation. Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, has unveiled a comprehensive improvement plan aimed at bringing Pakistan Railways in line with international standards. At the heart of this plan is the long-awaited Main Line-1 (ML-1) project, which has now been declared the highest priority by the ministry.

The ML-1 project is expected to improve safety, reduce travel times, and increase the overall efficiency of rail transport across the country. It is being viewed as a game-changer for public transportation and trade logistics in Pakistan.

Alongside this federal initiative, the Punjab government is stepping forward with a massive investment of approximately Rs350 billion. This funding will go toward upgrading eight key branch railway lines across the province. The goal is to enhance regional connectivity and make intercity travel more accessible for millions of passengers.

To further enhance the passenger experience, the government plans to provide free Wi-Fi at 40 railway stations throughout Punjab. This step aims to make rail travel not just convenient, but also digitally connected for commuters, students, and business travelers alike.

In addition to the upgrades in Punjab, the federal government is now in active discussions with the Sindh government. The purpose is to introduce similar railway improvements in Sindh, ensuring that the modernization drive is not limited to one province.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, planning and groundwork have begun for Main Line-2 (ML-2) — another crucial piece of the government’s long-term vision for the country’s railway infrastructure. Though still in early stages, ML-2 is expected to further expand the national rail network and support freight movement across underserved regions.

It’s important to note that this information is based on public statements made by government officials. Startup Pakistan is not directly affiliated with Pakistan Railways or the ML-1/ML-2 projects, and it does not guarantee or offer any of the services mentioned.

As Pakistan Railways gears up for this ambitious transformation, citizens and stakeholders alike are watching closely, hopeful that these changes will usher in a new era of efficient, modern, and inclusive rail travel across the country. Wikipedia
