The federal government of Pakistan has officially revised the prices of petroleum products for the next two weeks. In its latest announcement, the Finance Division has confirmed a significant reduction in petrol prices, while the price of high-speed diesel has gone up slightly. link
According to the notification issued late Monday night, the price of petrol has been slashed by Rs. 7.54, bringing the new rate to Rs. 264.61 per liter. This comes as a relief for consumers, especially for private vehicle owners and motorcyclists who rely heavily on petrol for daily commuting.
However, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD), which is widely used in public transport, goods transport, and agriculture, has been increased by Rs. 1.48, setting the new rate at Rs. 285.83 per liter.
Just two weeks ago, on July 15, the government had raised petrol prices by Rs. 5.36, bringing it to Rs. 272.15 per liter, and diesel was increased by a steep Rs. 11.37, reaching Rs. 284.35 per liter.
This new change means that while petrol users will see some financial relief, diesel users, especially in the transport and logistics sectors, will face increased operational costs.
Earlier on June 1, petrol was priced at Rs. 253.63 per liter, and diesel was Rs. 254.64 per liter. Between June 1 and July 15, petrol prices had risen by Rs. 18.52 per liter, before this recent cut was applied. Diesel has also experienced consistent hikes, affecting goods transporters and farmers.
The frequent changes in fuel prices are based on global oil market trends and adjustments in the exchange rate of the Pakistani rupee against the U.S. dollar. The government revises fuel prices every 15 days, using suggestions from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
These price adjustments directly impact the cost of living, as they influence the prices of essential goods, transportation fares, and electricity generation. Consumers are now hoping for more stability or further reductions in the coming reviews, as inflation continues to affect household budgets nationwide.
For now, the new fuel prices stand as follows:
- Petrol: Rs. 264.61 per liter (↓ Rs. 7.54)
- High-Speed Diesel: Rs. 285.83 per liter (↑ Rs. 1.48)
Consumers are advised to stay updated with the government’s next review scheduled for mid-August. ProPakistani
