Pakistan to Set Up Separate Immigration Counters for Foreign Passengers at Airports
In a major step to improve passenger experience, the Government of Pakistan has decided to set up separate immigration counters for foreign nationals at all international airports across the country. The move aims to make immigration procedures faster, smoother, and more welcoming for international travelers, especially tourists and business visitors.
According to official sources, the decision was made following multiple complaints about long queues and delays at existing immigration counters, where foreign and local passengers were processed together. The new system will help reduce waiting time and ensure quick clearance for foreigners arriving in Pakistan.
The Ministry of Interior has issued formal instructions to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which handles immigration operations, to begin preparations for these separate counters. Airports in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta will be the first to implement the new system.
A senior FIA official confirmed that dedicated staff will be trained to handle foreign travelers with better efficiency and hospitality. He added that the counters will be clearly marked and equipped with updated technology to speed up the immigration process.
The government hopes that this initiative will boost tourism, foreign investment, and international goodwill, as Pakistan continues to open its doors to the world. Officials believe it will also improve the country’s global image and bring its airport services in line with international standards.
This move comes as part of a broader reform agenda to modernize airport facilities and promote “Ease of Doing Business” and “Visit Pakistan” campaigns. Travelers and aviation experts have welcomed the decision, calling it a positive step towards enhancing Pakistan’s connectivity and global outreach. ARAB NEWS
