Lahore Becomes First City to Install AI-Powered Anti-Smog Guns

Lahore has officially become the first city in the world to assemble and operate AI-powered anti-smog guns. This breakthrough is part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s advanced plan to combat air pollution and improve public health. With smog becoming a serious threat in the winter months, this new step brings hope for cleaner air and a healthier environment.

As part of the project, 15 modern fog cannons have already been installed in key areas across Lahore. These machines spray a fine mist of water into the atmosphere, which helps capture and bring down harmful dust particles such as PM2.5 and PM10. These particles are known for causing serious breathing problems and long-term health issues. Dawn

What sets this system apart is its smart technology. Each fog cannon is connected to Punjab’s real-time air monitoring system. This means they can turn on automatically whenever pollution levels rise above safe limits. Using live data from satellites, drones, and artificial intelligence, the system identifies high-pollution zones and directs the fog cannons to operate exactly where and when they are needed most.

This AI-powered setup is part of a larger environmental strategy for Punjab. Alongside the fog cannons, the government has announced that all public parks in the province will be declared no-smoking zones. This move aims to reduce smoke exposure in public areas and promote a healthier lifestyle for families and children.

Experts believe these smart anti-smog guns could significantly reduce the level of pollutants in the air, especially during winter when smog peaks. Lahore has long struggled with some of the world’s worst air quality, and this initiative signals a fresh and innovative approach to solving the problem.

By combining technology with smart city planning, Lahore is setting an example for other cities battling similar pollution issues. The integration of AI and real-time data makes this system both efficient and sustainable. More importantly, it gives hope to millions of residents who suffer from poor air quality every year.

The government’s bold step has been praised by environmentalists and public health experts alike. Residents are optimistic that this new technology will bring visible change in the coming weeks and months. If successful, this model could be expanded to other cities in Punjab and even adopted internationally.

Lahore’s leap into AI-powered pollution control isn’t just a technological milestone—it’s a powerful message that cities can fight back against environmental challenges through innovation, data, and bold leadership. Wikipedia
